Jott_logoOne of my Dad’s clients told him about Jott yesterday. Jott is a service that allows you to call an 800 number from, say, your cell phone (really any phone,) and send someone that you added to your contact list a message (using your voice) in either an e-mail or SMS text message. The Jott service transcribes what you said into text, or in an e-mail you can click a link to hear the recording.

Let’s have a sample Jott call, where I “Jott” my cousin, Carly.

David picks up phone and dials 1-866-Jott-123.

Jott Lady (Computerized): Who would you like to Jott?

David: Carly.

Jott: Carly. Is this correct?

David: Yes.(tone)

David: Hey Carly, it’s David, call me later, okay? Love you, bye.

It’s as simple as that! You can even use Jott to remind yourself of something. Jott has all sorts of ways you can use it at http://jott.com/home/why-jott/jott-in-action. I find the service amusing, especially when it transcribes oddly. Even Jott’s not perfect. For instance:

Does my dad’s message look funny? He’s not mental. What he really said was:

“Hey, bud, what’s up? Hope you win your election. Go prez!”

(I am running for school president, by the way.)

Jott also includes a handy-dandy inbox when you log in at Jott.com. It organizes all your “Jotts,” incoming and outgoing. Plus transcriptions and the original audio. There’s also a tab to add contacts. (Click thumbnail for full version)

So, that’s a quick overview of Jott! I can see why it could be a good addition to many businesses or departments, small teams, or even to remind yourself to buy bread and milk! Try out the Public Beta at http://www.jott.com. Happy Jotting!
